Product information "Radical Wireless blackbird FX BLE"
Inside, it features Lumenradio’s latest TimoTwo module, supporting BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) as well as the advanced CRMX² technology. The Blackbird FX BLE transmits a full DMX universe with up to 512 channels at maximum data rate. Thanks to its simple mode switch, the device can operate either as a transmitter or as an RDM-enabled receiver.
Perfect for film sets, live events, and installations where wireless freedom, top-tier transmission quality, and cutting-edge RF technology are essential.
- Cognitive coexistence – dynamically avoids occupied frequencies
- DMX fidelity and frame integrity
- DMX frame rate and frame size auto sensing
- Fixed 5 ms end-to-end latency
- Automatic legacy (W-DMX G3, G4 and G4S) compatibility mode
- Receives CRMX2, CRMX Classic, W-DMX G3, G4, G4S and G5

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between CRMX, CRMX² and W-DMX?
CRMX is the de facto standard for wireless DMX from Lumenradio; CRMX² is the latest development
with a higher data rate and improved coexistence with other wireless systems. W-DMX is the competing
protocol from Wireless Solution – the Blackbird FX BLE is backwards compatible with W-DMX G3, G4, G4S and G5,
so you can easily integrate older systems.
Can I use the device as both a transmitter and a receiver?
Yes, a simple mode switch is all it takes. In TX mode, the device transmits DMX; in RX mode, it receives DMX
including the RDM return channel. So you need at least two Blackbirds (or a compatible counterpart)
for a complete wireless link.
How long does the battery last?
With the integrated 2,600 mAh Li-ion battery, you can achieve several hours of autonomous operation, depending on usage.
Charging is via USB micro (5V DC) – so it can also be recharged using a standard power bank,
if you’re transmitting for longer than planned.
What does ‘cognitive coexistence’ mean?
The 2.4 GHz band is crowded with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and other wireless systems. CRMX devices continuously scan
the spectrum and dynamically switch to free frequencies, rather than remaining rigidly on a single channel.
This ensures a significantly more stable connection, even in environments with heavy radio interference such as trade fairs
or stadiums.
How do I configure the device?
On the device itself via status LEDs and the link button – or conveniently via Bluetooth using the free
Lumenradio Toolbox app (iOS/Android). This allows you to view RDM devices on the network, check DMX values,
update firmware and adjust settings without having to open the device.
Will an antenna other than the one supplied fit?
The antenna connector is RP-TNC and is therefore compatible with a wide range of 2.4 GHz antennas.
For better range or directionality, you can connect omnidirectional or directional antennas.
You can find suitable options under Wireless and Antennas.
What alternatives are there if I want to install the device in a light fixture?
For integration into spotlight housings or development projects, the CMRX modules
LUMEN CARD TimoTwo
(with header) and
LUMEN CONTROL TimoTwo
are the right choice – they use the same TimoTwo chipset as the Blackbird FX BLE, but as a standalone
board for your own integration.
