Why does this LED have 2V instead of 3V forward voltage?

Red LEDs based on AlGaInP have a lower bandgap energy than blue/green LEDs based on GaN, resulting in a lower forward voltage (~2V). This is important for series connections: red LEDs have a significantly lower forward voltage than blue or green ones, which must be taken into account in mixed circuit designs.

What is this LED used for?

As the red channel in RGB or RGBCCT systems, for red accent lighting, colour effects on film sets, signal lights or in custom-populated GKORE modules.
